On September 18, Yarn Expo Autumn 2026 concluded in Shanghai. The fair brought together around 600 exhibitors from 14 countries and regions and welcomed nearly 22,000 visitors from 110 markets, with recycled, bio-based and regenerated fiber products emerging as the main thread of on-site sourcing discussions.
The fair was held concurrently with Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics Autumn Edition, CHIC, and PH Value, linking upstream fiber and yarn innovation with fabric development, garment production and fashion market demand on a single platform. Wilmet Shea, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, said at the close that sustainability and product performance are no longer seen by buyers as two separate categories, and that buyers increasingly expect solutions that combine both; by bringing together material innovators, processors, spinners, brands and downstream buyers, the fair turns industry consensus into actual negotiations and business outcomes.
Convergence of Circularity, Bio-Based and Performance
Products on display covered areas including plant-based polyester, recycled PET and regenerated fibers. Thailand's Indorama Ventures showcased its deja™ range of 100% recycled PET products; Japan's Toray Industries brought plant-based polyester and NANODESIGN® technology; and the UK's The Lurex Company presented traceable recycled metallic yarns. Domestic exhibitor Hangzhou Benma Chemical Fiber Spinning Co., Ltd. launched recycled polyester made from PET bottles and textile waste, broadening recycled material options for fashion, sportswear, home textiles and nonwovens.
The returning Uzbekistan pavilion, made up of 8 exhibitors, presented the country's vertically integrated cotton textile chain from cotton cultivation to weaving and garment production. Other exhibitors also showcased the cross-border networks of today's supply chains: Vietnam's Importeer International supplies imported cotton from Australia, Brazil, India and the US, as well as virgin and recycled synthetic fibers; Egypt's Co For Flax And Its Products demonstrated the processing of local flax into fibers and yarns for export.
Organizer side events also centered on material innovation. The "Tongkun · China Fiber Trends" display area organized by the China Chemical Fibers Association presented more than 300 new fiber and yarn samples; the "New Fibers New World — Textile Material Innovation Event" explored sustainable material development, green production and next-generation applications around four themes, including temperature-regulating fiber innovation and resource recycling and reuse.
Exhibitor Feedback
Sally Bugg, Commercial Director of the UK's Lurex Company, said she was delighted to return to the fair, where the company brought metallic and effect yarns, including 100% recycled Lurex yarn, and had already met potential new customers and existing customers from multiple markets on site, noting that the fair lets buyers directly feel the hand and softness of yarns. Rania El Nouehi, Export Manager of Egypt's Co For Flax And Its Products, said this was the company's first time exhibiting; as a full-chain flax producer from flax cultivation to spinning, the fair allowed it to connect with buyers from China and other international markets in one place, especially reaching Pakistani buyers it had rarely contacted before, while also gaining feedback on buyer certification requirements and market trends. Neeraj Gupta, Export Head of Indonesia's PT. Indo-Rama Synthetics Tbk, said China is one of the company's key markets, buyer interest in sustainable products such as recycled polyester, recycled cotton and organic cotton yarn is rising, and the fair provided a platform to showcase new products, capture demand shifts and build new business relationships.
Buyer Perspective
Adrian Rios, head of Brazil's Rios Trading Import and Export Co Ltd, said the company sources DTY, nylon, polyester fiber and cotton yarn for markets including Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Peru, and that with more than 50 suppliers exhibiting, the fair is an important annual opportunity to maintain face-to-face relationships with suppliers and directly evaluate products. Ebrahim Shakoor, Sales Manager of Pakistan's Peachbelt International, said the company sources TC yarn and pure cotton yarn for the Pakistani and Canadian markets, and that the fair offers a wide choice with exhibitors from different countries; on site it found a GRS-certified recycled polyester yarn supplier, meeting both conventional and recycled product needs. Mahedi Hassan, Deputy Manager responsible for sourcing and material sustainability at Bangladesh's MASCO, noted that his company has knitting, dyeing and finishing and garment facilities, and that 95% of its cotton yarn consumption is already certified sustainable fiber such as BCI, organic cotton and recycled cotton; its R&D and fabric development team was visiting booths to find new products and innovations for future collections.
The next edition, Yarn Expo Spring, will be held from March 10 to 12, 2027.
