Residents of Huzhou can now dispose of idle clothing at home through an online channel. An old clothing recycling app called "Nantaihu Hao" has officially launched. Users book an appointment online, staff come to their door to collect the items, and once recycling is completed they receive the corresponding payment. The whole process takes only three steps: booking, pickup, and payment.
The range of recyclable items is fairly broad. Besides all kinds of old clothes, old shoes, and old hats, it also includes old bed sheets and duvet covers, old bags, and old plush toys and other idle household textiles.
Along with the app's launch, the platform has simultaneously started a "Looking for Huzhou Recycling Heroes" campaign, raising the recycling rate from 0.7 yuan/kg to 0.9 yuan/kg. The campaign runs from September 20 to October 8 at 14:00. During this period, users who book orders through Nantaihu Hao and rank in the top five by recycling weight (ties are ordered by time of booking) will become "Recycling Heroes" and receive a fitness band plus a coupon package worth 220 yuan. The coupon package includes 3 no-threshold 10-yuan coupons, 1 coupon for 100 off 200 and 1 for 50 off 100 at the Food Festival, and 2 coupons for 20 off 50 in the online mall. The winner list is planned to be announced on October 9, and staff will notify winners by phone to collect their prizes.
Through a real increase in the per-kilogram rate and a reward mechanism, this campaign encourages residents to put idle old clothes into formal recycling channels. It not only gives residents tangible returns, but also helps reduce textile waste and advance the building of a local old clothing recycling system. For the industry, the launch of a local online appointment-based recycling platform offers a reference operating model for community-level old clothing collection, and the subsequent recycling volume and user participation will be worth watching.
