Recently, Jingkou Subdistrict in Shapingba District, Chongqing, held a civilized practice event themed around old item recycling and Mid-Autumn cultural experiences. Old clothes, idle quilts, and other items became the main objects residents brought for exchange.

The busiest area of the event was the old item recycling point. Residents came with packed old clothes and quilts that had been idle for years. Staff from the Lufengxing Public Welfare Development Center conducted on-site verification, weighing, and registration, then issued points tickets according to quantity. Residents used the tickets to directly exchange for daily necessities. According to event statistics, a total of 1,720 jin of old items were collected that day, and more than 12,000 civilized practice points were redeemed. Some residents exchanged old quilts they had accumulated for years for dish soap and tissues.

In addition to recycling and exchange, the event also arranged artistic performances and safety presentations. Seven artistic teams from the jurisdiction performed dances, instrumental performances, and other programs, attracting more than 200 residents to watch. Staff from the Shapingba District Public Security Sub-bureau and the Blue Sky Rescue Team, in conjunction with the 100-day campaign for mass prevention and mass governance, explained safety knowledge to residents using real cases around public security prevention, hidden danger investigation, and disaster prevention and mitigation, and also set up an interactive Q&A session.

The organizers said that the event presented old item recycling, artistic performances, safety presentations, convenience services, and intangible cultural heritage experiences together, attracting more than 2,000 residents in total. For the old clothes recycling industry, this type of approach, which relies on community activities and uses points exchange to encourage residents to hand in old clothes, provides a replicable grassroots mobilization model for collecting old clothes at the resident end.
