Bangladesh's garment exports to the UK rebounded in August with a 10.53% year-on-year increase after a slight decline in July. Data from the Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) show that in the first two months of fiscal year 2026-27 (July-August), Bangladesh's garment exports to the UK reached $915.63 million, up $33.01 million, or 3.74%, from $882.62 million in the same period of the previous fiscal year.
Key Points
- In July-August of FY2026-27, Bangladesh's garment exports to the UK totaled $915.63 million, up 3.74% year on year, earning $33.01 million more than the same period a year earlier.
- Garment exports to the UK fell 2.44% year on year in July, and the 10.53% increase in August offset the weakness in the first month.
- In the first two months of the current fiscal year, monthly average garment exports to the UK stood at $457.82 million, about 25% higher than the full-year monthly average of $365.71 million in FY2025-26.
Looking at monthly performance, Bangladesh's garment exports to the UK fell 2.44% year on year in July, and the double-digit growth in August reversed that weak start. The combined exports for the two months already equal 20.86% of the full-year total of $4.39 billion in garment exports to the UK in FY2025-26.
The monthly average also reflects the growth momentum. In July-August of FY2026-27, Bangladesh's monthly average garment exports to the UK were $457.82 million, while the monthly average corresponding to the full-year total of $4.39 billion in the previous fiscal year (2025-26) was $365.71 million, with the former about a quarter higher than the latter.
The UK is one of the main export destinations for Bangladesh's ready-made garments (RMG). The strong growth in August allowed Bangladesh to maintain overall export momentum to the UK market at the start of the current fiscal year. If exports to the UK continue this growth trend, it may provide support for its overall garment export performance in the coming months.
