Bangladesh's ready-made garment (RMG) exports to the United Kingdom reached US$915.63 million in the first two months (July to August) of FY2026-27, up 3.74% from US$882.62 million in the same period of the previous fiscal year. According to Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data compiled by trade research platform Bangladesh Apparel Voice, this growth was almost entirely driven by a strong 10.53% rebound in August, which offset a 2.44% year-on-year decline in July.
Key Points
- RMG exports to the UK totaled US$915.63 million in July-August of FY2026-27, up 3.74% year-on-year; the same period last fiscal year stood at US$882.62 million.
- August exports surged 10.53% year-on-year, reversing July's 2.44% decline and proving key to the overall return to growth.
- The average monthly export value in the first two months of this fiscal year was US$457.82 million, far above the US$365.71 million monthly average for the full FY2025-26.
Based on the first two months' performance, the US$915.63 million already accounts for 20.86% of the US$4,388.55 million in total RMG exports to the UK for the full FY2025-26. At the current pace, monthly exports to the UK this fiscal year would reach US$457.82 million, a marked acceleration from the nearly flat US$365.71 million monthly baseline of the previous fiscal year.
Mohiuddin Rubel, founder and CEO of Bangladesh Apparel Voice, noted that the strong August recovery pulled UK garment exports back into positive territory after a sluggish first month of the fiscal year.
For Bangladeshi RMG exporters whose main destination market is the UK, the August rebound signals recovering demand, but the sharp contrast between July and August also shows that order flows remain notably volatile. Whether the growth can be sustained in the coming months will determine the overall trajectory of UK exports for the full year.
