Bangladesh's merchandise exports rose 8.54% year-on-year in September to $3.93 billion, a rebound the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) attributes to a gradual recovery in ready-made garment (RMG) shipments; on a month-on-month basis, however, exports fell 11.11%. In the first quarter of the fiscal year (July–September), exports grew 6.34% year-on-year to a cumulative $13.09 billion.
Key points
- September merchandise exports: $3.93 billion, +8.54% YoY, -11.11% MoM.
- September RMG exports: $3.08 billion, +8.56% YoY; RMG exports in the first half of the fiscal year: $10.57 billion, +6.10% YoY.
- July–September overall exports: $13.09 billion, +6.34% YoY.
As the mainstay of Bangladesh's export economy, the RMG sector maintained its leading position and posted growth, with the EPB saying in a statement that merchandise exports continue to show resilience and competitiveness in the global market.
On a full fiscal-year basis, RMG exports grew 6.10% year-on-year in the first six months of fiscal year 2026–27, reaching $10.57 billion; in September alone, garment exports rose 8.56% year-on-year to $3.08 billion, roughly in line with the overall merchandise export growth rate.
It is worth noting that although year-on-year growth remained positive, September exports slipped from August, with a month-on-month decline of 11.11%. The quarterly growth rate of 6.34% was supported by the performance of both July and August.
For Bangladesh, whose exports are driven mainly by RMG, the latest data extend its established position on the global apparel supply side; the outlook ahead still depends on demand in major markets and garment order intake.
