Pentucket Regional High School in Massachusetts has a newly formed "Neighbors United Social Action Club" that will host a free Community Clothing Swap on October 17 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the school gymnasium, open to all residents of surrounding communities, located at 24 Main Street, West Newbury.

Key Points

  • Event time: October 17 (Saturday) 12:00–15:00, at the Pentucket Regional High School gymnasium
  • No need to bring clothing to participate; you can simply take what you need; remaining clothing will be donated to Ruth's House in Haverhill
  • Organized by the school's new club "Neighbors United Social Action Club," founded by Groveland junior Henry Smith

Henry Smith, the club's founder and a junior from Groveland, said the club will also sponsor other community events and look for volunteer service opportunities for members to get involved, and this free clothing swap is its first major project.

Smith said, "If some people don't have items to swap, we also invite them to come and take what they need. We want this event to be inclusive and to help people." He believes clothing swaps should be held more frequently in the area, because such events allow people to refresh their wardrobes without spending money or wasting resources.

The event emphasizes reducing consumption and cutting textile waste, while helping residents save money and strengthening community connections. Any remaining items not taken will be donated to Ruth's House in Haverhill.

From an industry perspective, such community clothing swaps organized by school clubs reflect how secondhand clothing circulation is extending from commercial platforms to local charitable settings, becoming a grassroots practice for reducing textile waste.
