The Gyeonggi Economic and Science Promotion Agency (hereinafter referred to as the Agency), together with companies located in Gwanggyo and Pangyo Techno Valley, is launching a winter coat sharing campaign for foreign residents. Donations will be accepted from the 13th to the 16th of this month, with collection points set up in the first-floor lobbies of a total of 7 buildings across the two Techno Valleys.
Key Points
- Donation window: October 13–16, with 7 collection points in total—4 at Gwanggyo Techno Valley and 3 at Pangyo Techno Valley.
- Accepted items: winter outerwear such as jackets, coats, and down jackets. After professional cleaning and sorting, they will be listed on an online registry for foreign residents in need to apply for, with delivery by courier.
- Track record: This public-private partnership has been running for 8 years and has cumulatively delivered over 70,000 winter coats to approximately 26,000 foreign residents.
Collection Point Distribution
According to the Agency, on the Gwanggyo Techno Valley side, collection points are set up at 4 buildings: the Agency's Gwanggyo Office, the Gyeonggi Bio Center, the Gyeonggi R&DB Center, and the Gwanggyo Business Center. On the Pangyo Techno Valley side, they are set up at 3 locations: the Global R&D Center, the Gyeonggi Creative Economy Innovation Center, and the Startup Campus. Each building has collection boxes placed in the first-floor lobby, making it convenient for employees of resident companies and staff of relevant organizations to drop off donations nearby.Who It Serves
The campaign targets foreign workers, international students, and multicultural families who are unfamiliar with Korea's harsh winters. The Agency has incorporated this into its public-private sharing initiative "9th Early Winter Clothing Sharing," with employees of resident companies and relevant organizations participating in clothing donations. Once collected, the clothing undergoes professional cleaning and sorting before being entered into the "Early Winter Clothing Sharing" online platform; foreign residents in need of coats can apply for specific styles on the platform and receive the clothing via courier.8 Years of Accumulation and Future Plans
"Early Winter Clothing Sharing" has been carried out for 8 consecutive years, during which more than 70,000 winter coats have been given to approximately 26,000 foreign residents, establishing a fixed process covering collection, cleaning, online application, and logistics delivery. The Agency stated that it hopes this campaign will encourage resident companies and relevant organizations to foster a spontaneous donation culture and expand social contribution activities linked to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) management.
Lee So-yeon (phonetic), Head of the Techno Valley Innovation Team at the Agency, said that the goodwill of companies and employees in Gwanggyo and Pangyo Techno Valleys will be a great support for foreign neighbors experiencing winter in Korea for the first time, and that the Agency will continue to work with resident companies to spread warmth to the local community and promote social contribution activities that share value.
For the secondhand clothing industry, the reference value of this case lies in the following: an institution-led, enterprise-participating targeted winter coat collection, combined with unified cleaning and sorting and online application and delivery, turns private secondhand clothing donations into a standardized, sustainable closed-loop process, and also provides an organized model for the compliant circulation of secondhand winter coats.
