Late at night on August 20, a fire broke out in an old clothes recycling bin in the town of Abtsgmünd in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. According to police reports, at around 22:55 that night, a used clothing donation bin on Hohenstadter Strasse suddenly caught fire, and the flames spread rapidly, completely destroying the bin.

After receiving the alarm, the local fire department responded quickly, dispatching a total of 3 fire engines and 14 firefighters to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters immediately began fighting the blaze and successfully extinguished it. However, due to the intensity of the fire, another adjacent old clothes recycling bin was also damaged by the intense heat.

According to a preliminary police investigation, the property damage caused by the fire totaled approximately €2,000. At present, the specific cause of the fire remains unclear, and the relevant investigation is still ongoing.

Such fires involving old clothes recycling bins are not the first of their kind in Germany. They are often caused by flammable items such as cigarette butts and may also be related to arson. Damage to the bins not only causes direct economic losses but also affects local residents' convenience in donating old clothes. People in the textile industry remind the public to avoid mixing flammable items into old clothes when donating and to pay attention to fire safety. Operators should also strengthen inspections and maintenance to prevent such accidents from disrupting the recycling network.
