UNIQLO officially opened its RE.UNIQLO STUDIO on the third floor of its Beijing Sanlitun global flagship store on August 24, marking the first such service location in North China. The studio accepts old clothing from all UNIQLO brand items and offers two main services, REPAIR and REMAKE, aiming to extend the lifespan of garments and promote sustainable consumption.
For repair services, staff assist customers in fixing common issues such as wear and tear and loose seams, restoring old clothes to wearable condition. The remake service offers over a hundred creative embroidery patterns, allowing customers to add personalized elements to their old garments. For this opening, embroidery templates incorporating local Beijing cultural elements were specially designed, including Peking opera masks, red lanterns, and kites, which resonate with local residents' daily lives while offering tourists a unique keepsake. These services are limited to UNIQLO brand products only, and customers can bring their old clothes to the third floor of the store for consultation and experience.
This initiative reflects how apparel retail brands are beginning to proactively build consumption scenarios for garment care and reuse beyond fast fashion. By offering physical repair and emotionally resonant customization, the brand reduces clothing waste and reinforces the environmental value of "wearing longer" in consumers' minds. For the old clothing recycling and reuse industry, UNIQLO's embedding of such services in physical stores helps cultivate clothing repair habits among ordinary consumers and provides a new service model reference for pre-processing before secondhand circulation.
