Oakland, California — Online secondhand clothing resale platform ThredUp released its fifth annual Impact Report on August 25, 2026, offering a comprehensive look at the company's environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy and progress. The report covers the full year 2025 and highlights the company's core achievements in advancing clothing circularity.

According to the report, ThredUp has processed more than 261 million secondhand items since its founding, and in 2025 successfully recirculated approximately 90% of items received, including through its own marketplace, thrift partners, and rescue boxes. That rate is far higher than the roughly 20% domestic resale rate of traditional charities. In 2025, its Resale-as-a-Service business recirculated 1.7 million secondhand items, expanding impact through partnerships with several leading brands.

As of the end of 2025, the ThredUp platform had more than 1.7 million active buyers and offered more than 60,000 brands. The company has prevented a cumulative 1.3 billion pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, saved 13.4 billion gallons of water and 2.5 billion kilowatt-hours of energy, and saved buyers an estimated $9.4 billion in retail spending.

Co-founder and CEO James Reinhart said: "Circularity isn't just a program that runs alongside the business. When ThredUp grows, more clothes stay in circulation. Our success and our impact are inseparable."

In addition, the report highlighted ThredUp's multi-year push to close the U.S. "de minimis" tariff loophole, which had allowed ultra-fast-fashion goods to flood the U.S. market duty-free; ThredUp believes this policy change helps foster a fairer trading environment.

ThredUp is a company focused on advancing secondhand trading through technology, with the mission to "inspire the world to think secondhand first." Its platform offers a wide range of secondhand goods from affordable to luxury brands, priced on average at less than 10% below estimated retail prices.
