UK Woman Uses Vinted Free Shipping Promotion to Send 8kg of Clothes to Australia for £4

A British woman spent just £4 to ship 8kg of clothes from the UK to Australia by taking advantage of a promotion on second-hand clothing platform Vinted, cleverly solving the problem of transporting clothes during an international move.

Beth Hackman, 25, is a physiotherapist who previously lived in Windsor, Berkshire, UK. In March this year, she traveled to Australia with her partner Nathan Riley (25) and decided to move to Sydney. At first, she only brought two large backpacks of clothes, but soon found she did not have enough.

She could have bought new clothes locally or paid high international shipping fees, but discovered that Vinted had just launched in Australia and was offering free delivery on UK parcels. So she contacted her mother Mel Belsdon (49) in the UK — who often sells items on Vinted — and asked her to list her old clothes on the platform. Beth then guided her via FaceTime video and bought four bundles of clothes at £1 per item, preventing other users from buying them first.

Each parcel weighed 2kg, not exceeding Vinted's weight limit. The two batches, four parcels in total, all arrived within nine days, just in time for Beth's birthday. She said it was an unexpectedly discovered trick that used the platform's promotion to save a large amount on shipping and avoided wasting the clothes she already had.

Vinted has since canceled the free delivery service on its Australian site, and the average shipping cost per parcel is currently £1.50 (about AUD 3.03).

This case demonstrates the practical benefits that promotional strategies from second-hand clothing platforms can bring to users, while also reminding people that such campaigns are time-limited and users need to seize the opportunity. As cross-border second-hand trading becomes more common, this kind of approach may become an alternative way to handle luggage during long-distance moves.
