To reduce illegal dumping, the city of Lemgo, Germany, has decided to restructure its used clothing collection system. Starting next week, the city will set up a central used clothing collection point on the main square in the city center, operated by the German Red Cross, with ten containers placed there. The existing multiple scattered collection points will be abolished to achieve more efficient and lower-cost management.
According to the city government, the switch between the old and new collection points will be concentrated on August 31 and completed on September 1. From September 2, in Lemgo city center and the Braka district, the only used clothing collection point will be this central one. The containers at the new collection point will be placed at the edge of the main square, adjacent to the existing glass recycling bins.
However, used clothing containers at locations such as the Pagenhelle Red Cross, the Wahmbeck multi-purpose hall parking lot, and Biesterberg will continue to be retained for public use.
