As environmental and sustainability awareness grows, the recycling of secondhand clothing and goods has become a rising trend in Taiwan. Located in Taipei, Dashuigou Secondhand House, a thrift store run for charitable purposes, has recently seen a surge in public donations, with its warehouse even becoming full.
Store manager Zhang Guizhi said the shop provides employment opportunities for disadvantaged groups through its secondhand store model, and works with companies such as IKEA, which sends damaged or unsold items to be repaired and reused, reducing waste. The store offers a variety of goods, including not only secondhand clothing but also home decor and novels, priced at 30% of the original price after cleaning, repair, and inspection. Ms. Guo, a member of the public, shared that she often visits secondhand markets and believes that extending the use of clothes can reduce waste compared with throwing them away.
Under the trend of sustainable consumption, secondhand stores not only offer the fun of treasure hunting but have also become a new eco-friendly choice, demonstrating the potential of the circular economy.
