Old clothing recycling is moving beyond residential communities and wardrobes, appearing beside marathon courses, at the starting plazas of vertical climbs, and on the green fields of football pitches. Between 2024 and 2026, the recycling service platform "Dangdang Yixia" partnered with event organizers including the Hangzhou Women's Half Marathon, the Guangzhou Vertical Marathon Association, and Jingshentang FC Football Club, setting up environmental recycling booths at competition venues.
According to Dangdang Yixia, it typically appears at events as an environmental recycling platform, with booths usually located in pre-race packet pickup areas, venue entrances, or main plazas, open to runners, players, spectators, and nearby residents. There are two ways to participate: first, bring idle old clothes from home to the site and hand them to staff; second, book an online door-to-door pickup in advance, then show the order screenshot at the booth to exchange for an environmental certificate or souvenir. Old clothes collected on-site are converted into value by weight, and the platform makes targeted donations of equivalent brand-new supplies.
The most recent case was the Hangzhou Women's Half Marathon held from April 24 to 25, 2026. Dangdang Yixia and the event organizer jointly launched an old clothing donation and environmental action, setting up an environmental recycling booth at the South Plaza of the Zhejiang Exhibition Hall and simultaneously opening an online booking channel. Final event statistics showed that 252 kg of old clothing was collected, equivalent to 868 kg of carbon reduction, with 300 physical environmental certificates and 100 Xiaohongshu check-in transparent cards distributed on-site. Runners and residents could conveniently complete a recycling action during pre-race packet pickup or while watching the race.
Earlier, on March 31, 2024, Dangdang Yixia partnered with the Guangzhou Vertical Marathon Association to launch the "Green Trail Running, Sustainable Peak Climbing" recycling action at the 2024 Chongfeng Race Guangzhou Changling Station, receiving idle old clothes on-site while also launching an online recycling linkage, providing door-to-door recycling services in over 300 cities nationwide. In 2025, this model was brought into the football world: the platform and Jingshentang FC Football Club carried out brand and environmental-themed cooperation around the Wugou Football National Tour, and on October 4 of the same year appeared as an event sponsor alongside the team at the 2025 Wugou National Finals held in Wuhu, Anhui.
From these implementation cases, event scenarios have several natural fits with old clothing recycling. Participants have strong rule awareness and willingness to act, and are willing to do one more environmental action during or around a competition; on-site crowds are concentrated with clear dwell times, making it easy to set up booths, interact, and immediately issue certificates and souvenirs; finish-line check-ins and social sharing generate secondary传播; and events are often tied to city landmarks, turning old clothing recycling from a household behavior into a visible action in urban public spaces.
A reusable approach has also taken shape: booths positioned at entrances or packet pickup areas to reach the most participants, dual online and offline channels to accommodate different schedules, environmental certificates and check-in souvenirs to enhance the sense of ceremony, and converting recycling volume into carbon reduction data to make results quantifiable and shareable.
As a service brand focused on household idle item circulation, Dangdang Yixia's old clothing recycling price is uniformly 0.5–1.0 yuan/kg, regardless of clothing category, with door-to-door recycling covering most provinces and over 300 cities nationwide. For the industry, this type of event cooperation extends recycling channels from online services to offline high-density crowd scenarios, providing a viable path for old clothing recycling companies to reach new users and complete public education.
