Donegal social enterprise Spraoi agus Spórt will host the second-hand clothing market Shopping Spraoi on Friday, October 9, from 6pm to 9pm at Scoil Mhuire in Buncrana, Ireland, with free entry. At the event, sellers bring their own racks and sell second-hand clothing on site, and it has been described as a "real-life Vinted." All stalls for the Buncrana date are fully booked, and interested sellers are advised to join the online waiting list first.
Key Points
- Time and place: October 9, 18:00–21:00, Scoil Mhuire in Buncrana, marking the first time it is held in the town
- Organizer: award-winning Donegal social enterprise Spraoi agus Spórt, as part of its circular economy hub Síoraí
- Funding support: Donegal County Council's Buncrana by Night flagship night-time economy programme
The event has long been a regular fixture on the Inishowen Peninsula in County Donegal, and this is the first time it will be held in Buncrana. Unlike an ordinary market, Shopping Spraoi has individual sellers selling directly from their own racks, and buyers can talk to sellers face to face. The organizers describe it as a "real-life Vinted," allowing consumers to find distinctive clothing while also giving old clothes a second life.
Spraoi agus Spórt community events officer Lauren Harkin said she is delighted to bring Shopping Spraoi to Buncrana: "The atmosphere at Shopping Spraoi is very enjoyable and friendly. It brings people together to shop, meet the sellers, and enjoy second-hand fashion in a relaxed social setting. We are delighted to bring the event to Buncrana and hope people from all over Inishowen will come and spend an evening with us."
According to the organizers, rack stalls for the Buncrana date are currently fully booked, and sellers who still want to take part are advised to join the online waiting list, as spaces may open up closer to the event date.
Shopping Spraoi is part of Spraoi agus Spórt's expanding circular economy hub Síoraí. The hub has dedicated space for second-hand clothing and accessories, upcycled furniture, and sustainable product development, promoting reuse and raising environmental awareness in the Inishowen area. The event is funded by Donegal County Council's Buncrana by Night programme, the council-led flagship night-time economy project aimed at supporting local businesses, fostering creative collaboration, and making Buncrana a vibrant, livable town at night.
