Winnipeg resident James Allen found a Hall of Fame jacket belonging to Canadian rock legend Randy Bachman at a Value Village thrift store on Kenaston Boulevard. After verifying online and asking Bachman and his family on TikTok, Bachman's daughter Lorelei left a comment confirming the jacket had indeed belonged to her father and told him he could keep it. Allen said Lorelei found the whole thing amusing and confirmed her father had donated a batch of jackets to Value Village.
Key Points
- Winnipeg resident James Allen bought the jacket at Value Village and at one point wanted to hide it away
- The jacket is from the 2014 Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum induction class in Nashville, USA, of which Bachman was one of that year's inductees
- Bachman's daughter Lorelei confirmed the jacket was her father's and allowed Allen to keep it
Allen and his wife Natasha treat thrifting as a serious pursuit, describing themselves as lovers of the "treasure-hunting" process. For many people, browsing secondhand stores carries a sense of nostalgia; with new clothing prices constantly rising, turning to thrift stores can also ease financial pressure. Allen said buying secondhand clothes is more environmentally friendly and far cheaper—new children's clothing can cost $100 or even $500, so it's better to buy secondhand for the kids.
Bachman is a founding member of the Winnipeg bands The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive. This jacket comes from the 2014 induction class of the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, USA, when Bachman was inducted.
The Allen family's two sons, Hendrix and Archer, are still growing up, and the jacket will one day be passed down to one of them. Allen also sent a message to Bachman: "Thank you for your music, you're a legend. I look forward to your future work."
