The Peking University Special-Purpose Housing Management Center will hold a graduation season old clothing recycling event in the Wanliu school district from June 13 to 17, 2025. Collected clothing will be uniformly handed over to the "Yijiayishan" project team for processing.

Key Points

  • Collection time is from 8:00 on June 13 (Friday) to 12:00 on June 17 (Tuesday), at the first-floor lobbies of each Wanliu district.
  • Donation scope includes clothing, backpacks, shoes, etc., which must be washed, neatly folded, and undamaged. Underwear and socks are not accepted.
  • Clothing is diverted according to utilization value: high-value items are cleaned and disinfected before being donated to poor children's families, while low-value items are made into recycled products or decomposed into recycled fibers and non-woven fabrics for industrial production.

This event adopts a self-service donation method. The management center places woven bags in the first-floor lobby of each district, and donors can simply put their packed clothing into the bags without on-site registration. The organizers particularly remind that clothing should not be placed in the first-floor lobby after the noon deadline on June 17.

For clothing that is severely damaged and does not meet donation conditions, the management stated it will be handled as appropriate and redirected to other places on campus where there is need, avoiding direct disposal.

Regarding where the clothing goes, all collected old clothes will be submitted to the "Yijiayishan" project team for follow-up processing and donation. The project team's diversion mechanism has three levels: old clothing with relatively high utilization value is uniformly cleaned, disinfected, and sorted before being directly donated to poor children's families; old clothing with low utilization value is made into other products for reuse; materials not suitable for clothing reproduction are decomposed into recycled fibers and non-woven fabrics, etc., and used in industrial production processes to make carpets, filling materials, insoles, building materials, heat energy generation, and more.

Due to limited manpower during graduation season, the organizers are also recruiting volunteers in the Wanliu school district to assist with clothing collection, planning to recruit 4 to 5 people. Interested parties can sign up by scanning the code to join the group.

From an industry perspective, this university graduation season recycling event presents a typical layered path for old clothing processing: wearable items enter public welfare donation channels, while the rest enter the recycled fiber and industrial raw material stages, consistent with the current common practice of "cascading utilization" in old clothing diversion.
