A 25-year-old woman from Kent, England, Chloe Lovett, has turned her second-hand clothing resale side hustle into a full-time career, with projected annual income reaching £100,000. She initially sold clothes on and off on the second-hand platform Vinted, and last September she made the decision to go full-time. In May of this year, she opened her first physical store, "Lovett Or List It," in Sheerness. Currently, her online sales alone can reach £400 per day, and her annual income is expected to break six figures.
Lovett previously helped out at her boyfriend Jack's marketing company, where she learned many skills. She initially ran the business from home, but due to the accumulation of clothing and the pressure of deliveries and pickups, she rented a storefront at the town's former council office location and officially opened in June. The store neatly displays second-hand clothing by color and size. She buys unwanted clothes from customers by weight and sells both online and offline simultaneously. The most popular items are classic pieces; she prefers durable, timeless styles. Customers range from teenagers to retirees, and the store is open six days a week, closed on Sundays. She also mentioned that some people come in every week to check out new arrivals, which surprised her. Currently, she runs the business alone, accompanied by a hound that is quite popular with customers. She plans to move to a larger industrial space within the next six months and is considering hiring help. Lovett believes that sourcing quality inventory is the key to success; one donor once brought in five brand-new Levi's jeans with tags still attached. She said that many people buy discounted clothing because they psychologically feel they are saving money, but in reality they never wear them, which provides a large supply of inventory for the second-hand market.
