Vancouver-based global athleisure brand lululemon has announced that its secondhand clothing resale platform "Like New" has officially launched in Canada. The service was first introduced in the United States in 2022 on Earth Day, aiming to extend product lifecycles through a circular economy model.

Consumers can now purchase gently used lululemon apparel and accessories through the platform at discounts of up to 60% off the original price. For example, the women's Chargefeel 3 sneakers, originally priced at $158, sell for about $82 on the secondhand platform, saving roughly $76. On the other hand, consumers can also send back or drop off their idle lululemon products at stores in exchange for shopping credits. According to official data, the program has reused over 1.7 million products globally since its launch, keeping them out of landfills.

Canadian consumers can shop online for popular items including Align leggings and belt bags. Meanwhile, a nationwide Trade-In event will run from September 14 to 21, accepting mail-in returns. Based on product condition and category, senders receive varying credit amounts: shirts, skirts, and tank tops earn $5 when returned in-store and $10 to $20 by mail; hoodies, pants, leggings, and large bags earn up to $30 by mail; outerwear and jackets earn up to $75. The platform says items are updated daily and inventory moves quickly.

For the industry, lululemon's move further validates the feasibility of sportswear brands entering the secondhand market. Through official resale channels, brands can both strengthen user loyalty and more effectively advance sustainable fashion in China—however, the service has not yet covered the Asian market.
