Chloe Lovett, a 25-year-old British woman, originally worked a minimum-wage job at a spa in Sheerness, Kent, her hometown, and sold second-hand clothes on the resale platform Vinted in her spare time to earn extra money. Less than a year later, she was making £400 a day through the resale platform and expects her total income this year to reach £100,000.
Chloe went all in on this side hustle last September. At first, she relied on her partner Jake to drive her to other people's homes to collect clothes, which she then resold from home. As the business expanded, her home no longer had enough space, and Jake could no longer keep helping, so she decided to find a fixed location for collecting clothes.
In May this year, she opened her first physical store, "Lovett Or List It," in a former government building near her home. The store organizes second-hand clothing by color and size, and it quickly became popular. Chloe said, "I'm fully booked six days a week. I didn't expect it to take off like this."
She buys unwanted clothing from customers by weight and then resells it through online and offline channels. Items customers aren't interested in she sells to other buyers, ensuring no inventory goes to waste. Because the goods are all "pre-loved" one-of-a-kind pieces, customers often visit weekly to hunt for new finds. Chloe prefers classic basics, believing those clothes can be worn for years, while many customers often can't resist buying sale items they psychologically feel are a bargain.
Despite the popularity of the physical store, her main income still comes from Vinted sales, and last week she also launched her own website. She is currently the only employee, and her pet dog Dolly has also become a "star" at the store. Chloe says she is still "learning as she goes" and sometimes experiences "self-doubt," but she is proud of her thriftiness and hard work.
The next step: she plans to move to a commercial industrial unit within six months and hire more staff. Chloe emphasizes that she is doing exactly what she loves and affirms her career change: "I definitely made the right choice."
