The German Red Cross (DRK) local association Bremerford-Rotenburg recently announced that it will take legal action against illegal dumping next to old clothing banks (Altkleidercontainer). According to statistics, since the fall of 2025, illegal dumping in the area has been repeatedly reported, including randomly discarding garbage next to the banks and piling non-donation items around the containers, which has seriously disrupted recycling work and increased processing costs.

According to the association's head, due to garbage contamination, a large amount of old clothing cannot be reused because it is mixed with impurities, causing waste disposal costs to surge, which completely goes against the original purpose of charitable recycling. For this reason, the association has decided it will no longer tolerate such behavior, will strengthen monitoring, and will resort to legal channels when evidence is conclusive, in order to curb this trend.

To this end, DRK has urged local residents to supervise each other and made it clear that any illegal dumping found at any recycling point in the future will face criminal reporting. This move is expected to raise public legal awareness while protecting the normal operation of old clothing recycling as an environmental public welfare cause.

The association currently manages multiple public old clothing recycling points, covering several towns. This action is also seen as a concentrated response to the growing behavior of illegal resale or damage to infrastructure. If the results are significant, it may provide a precedent for charitable organizations in other federal states to follow.
