A complaint about Vinted sellers recently sparked heated discussion on overseas social media. A buyer posted on Reddit, calling on sellers to stop spraying perfume or fabric freshener on clothes before shipping, saying the items they received were "soaking wet" and unsettling.

According to the post, after communicating with the seller, the buyer learned that the seller had sprayed the clothes with fabric softener before shipping. Although the seller may have wanted to create a good unboxing experience, the result was the opposite—the clothes were sprayed too wet, and the buyer had to wash them again. The buyer said they still gave a four-star review because, apart from that, the item matched the description, but taking wet clothes out of the package was worrying.

The post resonated widely. Some comments pointed out that strong fragrances can trigger migraines, allergies, or asthma, and that "washing the scent out of clothes" is a lot of work. Others warned that wet clothes left in a sealed package for several days could grow mold.

On Vinted, some sellers add extra fragrance to second-hand clothes to pursue a "boutique-style" unboxing effect, or to cover up musty smells from storage. However, this practice is unpopular among buyers, and many dislike receiving clothes sprayed with unfamiliar scents.

It is worth noting that this issue reflects the detailed tests of product freshness and perceived hygiene on second-hand trading platforms. For sellers, honest descriptions and careful packaging may be more important than fancy free fragrance.
